Is Being An Asshole Cool Now?
I don’t have many places that I consider to be safe spaces online. There’s one community on LJ that I’ve found to be inclusive and not bigoted.
Then a couple of days ago (maybe with the full moon coming!?) drama erupted there, and in other places across the internet that I frequent.
People are just so fucking mean. So cruel and spiteful. And it gets giggles. It gets people respect. And it pisses me off. Bluntness and honesty are a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THING from being a mean spirited nasty piece of work.
Have I had my eyes closed for the last 26 years??? Has it suddenly become cool and accept to be a complete turdface? Is racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny and just plain hurting people cool now!?
If I hurt someone you can be damn sure that I’ll apologise. Sometimes I don’t realise it and I’ll be slow on the uptake for a while, but believe me, once it’s realised, I atone for it.
Now though….it’s like the rules have been suspended. I’ve even been considering taking a break from the internet because I feel like it’s all out bloody warfare and people will fight to the fucking death in order to be top dog.
