Let me get this out of the way…yes it was funny. Yes it was good that she stood up to her boss objectifying her.

I have three reservations about the ‘wow she’s so cool’ crap floating around atm. All based on the fact that this is a privileged piece of shit.

1. She is hot. She knows it. There’s no way she didn’t know it and there’s no way she’s never used her hotness to her advantage in her life, EVER. Call me a bitter ugly person, but as someone who’s spent most of my life being punished for being fucking weird looking, I don’t buy into the poor attractive me mindset.

You’re so right. Everyone that you find attractive is purposefully, deliberately working to brainwash and control the people around them, using their blazing good looks — which as we all know, are especially useful on a lady, because there’s NO WAY that arousing sexy feelings in straight dudes and envy in ladies could EVER POSSIBLY inspire extra kneejerk slut-shaming and misogyny — to get things that you don’t have. What you don’t know is that they’re specifically trying to make sure you don’t have those things! And not some plural “you,” either: Nope, it is Y-O-U, you specifically, whose life they are consciously working to make harder with their perceived attractiveness. Basically, this entire thing is about you. And your life. And the fact that people whom you find attractive hate you, and wish you ill. Also, did you know? If you find someone attractive, everyone else always feels that way about them too. They never get body-shamed, they never get sexually or socially rejected, they never get called “weird-looking,” they never feel shitty about their own bodies, nor are they made to feel shitty (if they are ladies) by a social paradigm in which every woman’s body is considered subject to inspection and judgment and no woman’s body is ever perfect. They’re hot! Which is a fixed category that is unambiguously and totally privileging to everyone that you think belongs to it! And, as people that you find hot, they are out to get you. That is what people that you find hot like to do.

When people whom you find attractive leave the room, in fact, they always make sure to leave some personal notes behind with the people in charge. These notes encourage those people to look down on you and deny you opportunities. Because there’s no way that the problems are coming from those people, the folks in charge, the folks you know, with their own specific wacky quirks and fucked-uppedness around people’s looks; there’s no way they would still be mean to you if those hot people weren’t all out there working to bring you down, with their sly manipulative ways.

Because that person totally deserves it.”

I’m reblogging this because it made me smile and laugh at myself. Under the very heavy sarcasm I can detect a point. Yes, I’m bitter and cynical because of a lot of things, my lack of attractiveness being one of them :-P But the post was never about me, and I think a joke about my expense has missed the point here really. It wasn’t me thinking that zomg attractive people are OUT TO GET ME RUN AWAY FROM THE PRETTIES! It was me pointing out, whether people want to hear it or not, that conventional beauty is a privilege. And yes, for some women, a curse. Maybe as I age I’ll see it differently, but right now I’m still going to get pissed about it.
